, This is the first international standard drafted and issued by China in the field of coatings for the first time

internationally, Karl Fischer method was mainly used to determine the moisture content in coatings, and gas chromatography is not popular. However, this method has been used in China for years with the joint participation of many manufacturers. Long term experience shows that gas chromatography is simple, fast, repeatable and reproducible, and can replace Karl Fischer method. With the development of chromatographic analysis technology, this method can be popularized and applied worldwide. The formulation of this international standard is based on Appendix B of China's current national standard gb/t, and proposes Chinese coatings based on the latest technical level at home and abroad

the release of this international standard will enable China's advanced testing methods to quickly step onto the international stage and effectively enhance the international influence of China's coating industry and coating analysis and testing technology

the staff of the international standardization team of the National Technical Committee for standardization of paints and pigments began to prepare the international standard proposal for moisture content determination in early 2017, and introduced the project to foreign experts using the iso/tc35 international standardization annual meetings in 2017 and 2018. The project was successfully approved in January 2018 and officially released in April 2019. Thanks to the good communication with the Secretary, convener and foreign experts of ISO working group, such as no oil flow from the oil return pipe and the branch, etc., and the timely provision of drafts and documents at various stages, this international standard took only more than one year from the project initiation of single-chip microcomputer measurement, calculation and digital display results to its release, skipping the CD and FDIS stages, nearly two years earlier than the expected release date in January 2021

the official release of this international standard marks a historic step in the international standardization of coatings in China, which is attributed to the care and support of leaders at all levels for the international standardization work, as well as the unremitting efforts of the international standardization team of the National Technical Committee for standardization of coatings and pigments
